The Airfield of the Municipality of Cascais is located in a high quality tourism zone of the Costa do Estoril (Estoril Coast). . This privileged situation, along with the quality of its facilities and services, is the main reason for the increasing demand by commercial air traffic, both business and tourism, being currently the 2nd airport structure of the Lisbon region. . This location, its present and future access, as well as the capacity to handle the above mentioned traffic and passengers, and also its use by a large range of operators related to the sector, naturally make this structure an important generator of local and regional development. . It has a 1700 metres ( 5170 feet ) long, cement and tar landing strip, prepared to handle traffic up to 40 tons. The landing strip also possesses light signalisation, approaching lights and Apapis system. . This structure also has Air Traffic Control, Movement and Airport Operations, Security, Dispatch, Weather Forecast, Fire and First Aid, Aprons, Supplies & Refuelling, Service and Maintenance of Aircraft, Restaurant / Coffee-Shop, as well as 7 shops in the Public Areas. . Regarding its air space and according to its own Control Zone (CTR), one will find the most sophisticated communications, recording and weather forecast equipment . The same way, to assure the security of all IFR flights, procedures to enter and leave this CTR have been created with full compatibility with the existing SID´s / STAR´s already available on the Lisbon Terminal Zone (TMA), supported by two navigation radio - aids, one NDB locator type and one TVOR / DME. . Its proximity to Lisbon, concerning the easy access through the high-way (A5) Lisbon - Cascais, the quality of the public and operational areas, the facilities, the rigour in which the Master Plan has been followed, the protection to the Aeronautical Servitudes and the abiding to the measures related to the acoustical impact on the way to minimise the effect of noise on the urban areas closer to the landing strip make this airport structure one of the most modern and secure of its category, leading to an increasing demand from general and regional aviation. ..
